    The collection contains letters, documents, including 190,000 reports, 1200 maps, 500 photographs, and 8200 pieces of printed material related to the life and career of Ralph Arnold. Subjects represented in the collection include: mining, petroleum, and seismology in the Western United States as well as Canada, Mexico, Cuba, and South America; political papers from 1914 to 1956, mostly concerning the campaign of Herbert Hoover for president; family and personal papers from 1836 to 1961 of Arnold and his father, Delos Arnold, containing source material on Pasadena and Southern California local history. The collection also contains Arnold's field books, including those made at Stanford University with the U.S. Geological Survey from 1900 to 1909.

    53 photographs of the Mexican Revolution. Most of the pictures are of artillery, ships, or Panuco oil fields in Tampico. People featured include Jack and Charmian London, General F.D. Evans, Major General B.C. Lockwood, Lieutenant Hayes, General Funston, Captain J.B. Allison, Colonel Van Vlict, and Captain Davidson. Also included are photographs of the Seventh Infantry and Fort Crockett.

    Bound in textured black material. The title, "Vera Cruz II" is embossed in the center of cover in gold lettering. The number "84" is affixed to the top of spine with glue. Images are of military officers and personnel, US Naval ships, and the city of Veracruz during the American Occupation of 1914. Also includes a series of photos taken of oil fields in Tampico; photographic postcards taken by well known photographers such as W. H. Horne and Walter P. Hadsell; series of photos of London taken by his friend and fellow correspondent Jimmie Hare.

    Boxes 1-17 consist mainly of correspondence, documents, and manuscripts to and from José Matías Moreno. Some subjects include the history of his Rancho Guadalupe in northern Baja California; politics in Baja California and American economic and political influence there; filibustering; ranchos and land sales; commerce and shipping along the California coast; mining; and the social and domestic history of the Californios. Boxes 23-26 consist of additional oversize correspondence, documents, and manuscripts at the end of the collection. Note: At the end of Box 15, there are facsimiles, translations, and a group of loose notes and fragments. The notes and fragments appear to be a working translation. These folders do not have an HLG call number.
