This manuscript is a mortgage deed from Otto Bendeleben to Robert Field Stockon, and concerns Bendeleben's purchase of land in the southern portion of Rancho el Potrero de Santa Clara. Printed form filled in by hand. Also included are a promissory note signed by Bendeleben and several copies of other promissory notes.

Manuscripts
The collection consists of articles, correspondence, chiefly written by or to Otto Glasser, photographs, pamphlets, X-rays, and, an X-ray tube used by Röentgen. There are several copies of the X-ray Röentgen took of his wife, Anna Bertha's hand on December 22, 1895, and an X-ray of the hand of a gunshot victim, taken by Michael I. Pupin in February 1896. Correspondents include Thomas Edison, Bern Dibner, Wilhelm Conrad Röentgen, Arthur R. Von Hippel, and numerous other scientists and physicists. There are several articles written by, as well as X-rays done by, Wolfram Conrad Fuchs, a German electrical engineer who became a pioneer in radiography.

Manuscripts
The collection consists of a small number of manuscripts by and about Gladstone, as well as photographs, engravings, prints and ephemera. The bulk of the collection is made up of letters by Gladstone, which deal mainly with British politics and business; there is also a small amount of personal letters by various other members of the Gladstone family. Other correspondents represented in the collection include: A.J.B Beresford Hope, Patrick William Campbell, Sir John Cowan, John Nielson Gladstone, Abraham Hayward, Henry and Catherine Holiday, Stafford Henry Northcote (Earl of Iddesleigh), George Cornewall Lewis, Henry William Primrose, Archibald Philip Primrose (Earl of Rosebery), and Robert Lowe (Viscount Sherbrooke).

The collection contains Seth Barnes Nicholson's astronomical research and correspondence. The majority of Nicholson's research material deals with his study of Jupiter and its moons (Box 1). His other research (Box 2) includes his study of magnetic activity, the asteroid Icarus, Trojan asteroids, Pluto, Venus, the Sun and Sun spots (there is one item dealing with both Jupiter and the Sun in Box 1). There are some pieces of correspondence in the research folders. Most of the correspondence (Box 3) is between Nicholson and other astronomers throughout the world; the majority of it is also about Jupiter and its moons, asteroids and sun spots. Notable participants in the collection include: Giorgio Abetti, Astronomical Society of the Pacific, Robert Grant Aitken, Joseph Ashbrook, Ira Sprague Bowen, Leland E. Cunningham, Sturla Einarsson, Charles Federer, Paul Herget, Samuel Herrick, Theodor S. Jacobsen, Vladimir Kourganoff, Karl Otto Kiepenheuer, Gerard Kuiper, Willem Luyten, M. G. J. Paper dolls
Visual Materials
A collection of handmade paper dolls, a photograph, and two leaves of paper dating from approximately the 1860s to the 1920s. The collection was stored in a wooden box containing thirty-four paper dolls of human characters, seven paper dolls of various animals, and fourteen wooden stands for the dolls. On the verso of two billheads addressed to Miss Edith Thompson of England is a handwritten reflection on which literary characters, friends, and family members the dolls depict. Thompson is presumably both the author and the creator of the dolls. Her writing includes personal anecdotes and characteristics regarding their creation. Many of her descriptions of the dolls mention references to characters from children's poetry and literature published from the 1840s to 1860s; she references rabbits and cats from Otto Spekter's Picture Fables, 1858; "Eunice" from Mrs. Barbauld's Hymns in Prose, 1864; "Daisy" from a Wordsworth poem, and more. Also included is a black-and-white photograph measuring 2 x 4 inches of two women's backs as they walk towards an arched path; of unknown origin.
