It’s rice harvesting season at the Japanese Heritage Shōya House! Join us for our second annual harvest and learn all about the traditional practice of growing and harvesting rice.

Gardens

Stop by and participate in this year’s rice harvest and get a first-hand look at how it is cultivated from seed to grain. Experience the process by joining in on bundling, tying, threshing, and winnowing guided by Huntington experts.

Join Aaron Hughes, horticulture curator of Asian gardens, for an introduction to the practice of growing and harvesting rice. Talks at 12 p.m., 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m., and 1:30 p.m.

Japanese Heritage Shōya House

Experience a restored home and agricultural compound from 18th-century Japan that provides a glimpse into rural life some 300 years ago. Built around 1700, this 3,000-square-foot residence served as the center of village life in Marugame, Japan.
